Abstract
Scholars have investigated many aspects of rhetoric, but little effort has been made to relate rhetoric to specific philosophic traditions. In this essay? the authors explore the relationship between advocacy and the humanistic tradition in eighteenth and nineteenth century England, illustrating with examples the use of pervasive philosophic ideas by prominent British orators.Keywords
