Prevention of Recurrence in Acute Thyroiditis Following Corticosteroid Withdrawal

Abstract
Corticosteroid therapy of acute nonsuppurative thyroiditis is often the treatment of choice. However, relapse either during or following corticosteroid withdrawal is frequent. It is suggested that steroid therapy be maintained until the thyroidal 131I uptake returns to normal or above normal.
