Abstract
A low field electro-optic light switch mechanism is proposed, based on changes in the fluorescence from dye molecules absorbed to sepiolite clay particles. When tagged with acridine orange and suitably oriented in an electric field, sepiolite suspensions give fluorescence effects orders of magnitude greater than those for dye-tagged liquid crystals. Uses of the system are discussed. Keywords
