Abstract
To the Editor: We have recently seen an unusual manifestation of sickle-cell disease (S-S) that we call to the attention of readers to ascertain whether it is a real and noteworthy finding.A 23-year-old black woman with known sickle-cell disease since the age of 3 months was recently seen during a crisis, but this time with an additional complaint of pain and swelling of the right knee. In the two years before admission she had had numerous crises and, in fact, had only been discharged from the hospital three days earlier. Her previous hospitalization had been for 32 days.
