Rearing Houseflies for Testing Contact Insecticides

Abstract
A technique is described for rearing houseflies for testing purposes. It differs from that usually employed only in the media and apparatus used. Improved testing cages which make possible more rapid tests are also described and some representative results given. A method for making tests on individual houseflies is described and it is shown that certain contact poisons are absorbed directly through the body wall and do not need to enter the trachea.
