Abstract
Piezoelectric composites with 0–3 connectivity by mixing coprecipitated PbTiO3 powder with a polymer. Composites were cured at 80°C for 10 hrs and poled with an electric field of 0–100 kV/cm for 0–15 min at 85°C. X-ray diffraction patterns taken on the surface of the composites before and after poling indicated that almost saturation poling was achieved at 80 kV/cm. Piezoelectric d 33 coefficient of the composite was strongly dependent on the particle size of PbTiO3. Composites prepared from fine PbTiO3 powder (smaller than 200 nm) needed longer duration for saturation poling than composites with large PbTiO3 particles. This difference in poling behavior is probably because of the rotation of single-domain crystallites in composites with fine PbTiO3 particles. Keywords
