Abstract
To the editor: Neopterin has been identified as a potential marker in the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) (1). We have tested 49 men in different stages of the Walter Reed staging classification (2) for neopterin concentrations in serum and urine. Forty-six men were homosexuals and 3 were parenteral drug addicts. They were repeatedly tested up to five times, at regular intervals of 2 weeks during a period of 3 months. In total, 208 serum samples and 160 urine specimens were evaluated. Neopterin was measured in urine samples by high-performance liquid chromatography techniques (3) and in serum by a commercially availableKeywords
