Abstract
Sufficient conditions for exponential instability are obtained for a class of infinite‐dimensional gyroscopic Lagrangian systems. Applications are made to the problems of the stability of a rotating thin annular elastic disk and the stability of the steady flow of a one‐dimensional warm electron plasma.Keywords
