Abstract
Summary: The influence of glycaemic status and blood insulin levels on abomasal emptying rate was studied in 4 fistulated heifers.Endogenous insulin, secreted after i. v. glucose infusion, as well as exogenous injected insulin, caused a marked decrease of abomasal emptying rate lasting several hours. It is suggested that insulin itself, apart from hyper‐ or hypoglycaemia, might be the major cause of inhibition of abomasal emptying, acting either centrally or peripherally. Keywords
