Abstract
Hallux rigidus deformity with limited motion and pain in the first metatarsophalangeal joint is associated with abnormal weight distribution through the foot during walking. A common treatment modality for this condition is the Mayo-Keller procedure with placement of a total implant. The authors evaluate the efficacy of the surgical techniques and that of the functionally posted foot orthoses in improving the biomechanics of the pathologic foot during walking. Electrodynogram evaluation preoperatively and postoperatively, as well as with and without foot orthoses, showed significant improvement in great toe purchase with the postoperative use of a functional posted foot orthosis. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
