Abstract
An attempt is made to differentiate between 2 types of vertiginous seizure. Vestibular seizures are defined as seizures arising from discharge of neurons in the cortical projection sector of the labyrinth. Experimental and clinical data are reviewed to define the location and afferent connections of this sector in man. Vestibulogenic seizures are defined as seizures arising from the brain-stem reticular system as a result of labyrinthine discharge. Experimental and clinical data are reviewed to define the vestibulo-reticular "connections, and their role in the produc- tion of seizures. The clinical features of vestibular seizures and vestibulogenic seizures are compared and contrasted in an attempt to facilitate their differential diagnosis. Keywords
