(Second of Three Parts)*Drug Reactions Suspected of Being AllergicThe role of allergy in drug-induced inflammation of the liver, kidney, lungs and small blood vessels is not well defined. Very frequently, some form of direct toxicity appears to be involved, as suggested by its high rate, the rapid induction of symptoms in the absence of known previous exposure and an inability to demonstrate marked fluctuations in sensitivity in serial studies of the same patient.
