Abstract
An unusually extensive invasion of Salpa fusiformisCuvier to Norwegian waters in 1955 is described. Salps were observed between May and November on all parts of the coast from Bokn-fjorden in the south to East Finnmark in the north (71°,N, 30°,E), and they also occurred in immense quantities in the open sea. The published records of salps in Norway before 1955 are summarized and new records from before and after 1955 are presented. Most records are from September and October and from the Möre coast, where also most mass occurrences have been observed. The route of the invasions is discussed. Wintering in Norwegian fjords has been ascer-tained, and records from the first months of the year probably refer to wintering specimens. The salps in 1955 were a serious drawback to the fisheries. Keywords
