Abstract
Rates of adsorption of H2, , and O2 on catalyst surfaces prepared by pre‐adsorption of gases were studied. Pre‐adsorption of increases the rate and extent of H2 adsorption. Adsorption of and of O2 irreversibly poisons the surface. The Elovich equation is applicable to the data. The results are discussed in terms of a site‐creation mechanism. It is found that the pre‐adsorption of a gas may influence both the initial and the ambient rates of adsorption to various and at times opposite extents, resulting in several types of “poisoning.”Keywords
