Abstract
An analysis of the stability of thick rings and tubes under lateral pressure is given using the stress distribution across the thickness found by the classical theory of elasticity. The internal conditions given by Bolotin's equations are satisfied and more appropriate conditions for the surfaces are used. The results are compared with the upper and lower bounds found by Boresi. Keywords
