A possible use of soil microoroanisms for bioindication of cadmium toxicity to plants

Abstract
Relationships between frequency of Cd‐resistant soil microbial strains and Cd‐uptake capacity and toxicity in carrot were studied in a pot experiment with artificially‐contaminated soil in different nutrient conditions. In this study the parameters of microbial succession and the weight of roots, of green parts of plants, total concentration of soil Cd, concentration of Cd in roots and some related ratios are compared. From the linear‐regression analysis of plant cultivation data and microbiological analyses it is obvious that there is close relation between microbial and plant Cd‐toxicity. No significant bioindication of plant uptake of cadmium was found.
