Attention deficit disorder (ADD), although the focus of intensive research, principally in the USA, has not impressed the majority of UK child psychiatrists with its validity. This review compares current diagnostic systems and looks at recent research on the nature of the syndrome, comorbidity, response to treatment and long-term outcome of children given this diagnostic label
