Allergic Hepatitis Caused by Propionyl Erythromycin Ester of Lauryl Sulfate

Abstract
THE problem of drug-induced liver injury is becoming increasingly important with the introduction of new drugs and poisons. Two recent reviews1 , 2 have listed the agents that have been implicated in liver injury. Chlorpromazine is the best example of the group of drugs that produces a syndrome simulating extrahepatic biliary obstruction.3 Such commonly used drugs as chlorothiazide,4 norethandrolone,5 methimazole6 and methyltestosterone7 have been reported to cause intrahepatic cholestasis, although the incidence is low.The purpose of this report is to add an antibiotic, the propionyl erythromycin ester lauryl sulfate to the list of drugs that may cause intrahepatic cholestasis.
