Abstract
Phospholipid turnover rates were studied in 2 human patients with cirrhosis and fatty infiltration of the liver by determining the radioactivity of the blood lipids at intervals after the injn. of 0.5 mc. of radio-phosphorus. An initial large dose of methionine in one case, and of choline chloride in the 2d caused a marked increase in phospholipid turnover, but similar dosage after prolonged therapy with methionine did not. A shift in turnover rate with a single massive dose of lipotropic substance possibly indicates deficiency of lipotropic substances in the body.
