Abstract
The exudate of excised onion roots bathed in simple KCl/CaCl2 solutions contains a variety of inorganic cations and anions together with quantities of organic molecules. This complexity of composition contrasts with the simplicity of the exudates of maize roots under identical conditions and presumably reflects transfer of these materials from the onion bulb to the roots during growth. Keywords
