Effect of Ultra-Violet Irradiation of Phenylephrine Solutions

Abstract
Solutions of phenylephrine in distilled water were irradiated with ultra-violet light for 3 hr. The irradiated solutions tested on perfused guinea-pig lungs had a bronchodilator potency greater than that of the original non-irradiated phenylephrine solution. The bioassay and photofluorometric determinations (Shore and Olin method) suggested that adrenaline had been formed from phenylephrine in the irradiated solution.Keywords
