Abstract
Benzene extracts of hydrolyzed urine were assayed for androgenic properties upon the capon''s comb and for estrogenic properties upon adult spayed rats. Four normal young men, studied for 6 wks., excreted an average of 40 international androgenic units per day (2-hr. hydrolysis), approximating 67 units per day by the 15-min. hydrolysis, and an average of the equivalent of 10 [gamma] of theelin per day, with no conclusive evidence of cyclic variation. Four normal young women, studied for 4 wks. excreted an average of 28 international androgenic units per day (2-hr. hydrolysis), approximating 47 by the 15-min. hydrolysis, and an average of the equivalent of 25 [gamma] of theelin per day. The cyclic increase in the estrogenic output during the intermenstruum was unaccompanied by alteration in the androgenic output. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
