Abstract
Tomato production (yield and height) was substantially reduced by 1st-generation larvae of Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) which fed on the plants when they were susceptible to injury. Increases in production of green fruit were negatively correlated with decreasing plant damage. There also were significant negative correlations between yield and plant damage and positive correlations between yield and plant height. When caged tomato plants were infested with initially 1 adult/2 plants. 1 adult/plant, or 2 adults/plant, yields always were reduced ca. 84%. Acceptable yields resulted when an efficient monitoring system was used to insure proper timing of sprays for control of overwintering adults and 1st-generation Colorado potato beetle larvae. Keywords
