Abstract
Presented is a microscopic derivation of bags from a relativistic quantum theory with spontaneously broken symmetry. The static energy of a bag whose singularity is the surface of a sphere coincides with the volume tension in the MIT bag theory. A similarity between the bags and the point defects in crystals is pointed out. Keywords
