Abstract
A method has been devised, using data from cardiac catheterization and formulae relating to the pressure reservoir function of the arterial system, which enables the calculation of the elasticity resistance and peripheral resistance for systemic and pulmonary circulations. In pulmonary stenosis a relation has been observed between vessel size and the elasticity resistance in the pulmonary arterial system. The relation between the elasticity resistance and the occurrence of visible pulsations in the pulmonary arteries on fluoroscopy are probably related to the influence of the former on the pulse volume in conditions of increased flow or high pressure. In all groups of congenital heart disease the circulatory patterns in the 2 circulations are quite different, the systemic circulation is always adjusted toward normal, regardless of the changes in the pulmonary circulation. Keywords
