Abstract
This is the first of two articles about the organisational processes concerned with promotion. In this first article, we present a brief outline of the way promotion is dealt with in most textbooks. We then begin looking at the reality of promotion processes as indicated by a case study based on an organisation we shall call “Promco”. A number of major issues are identified.Keywords
