Abstract
The bending modulus of various polymeric monofilaments is determined with an instrument designed to measure bend ing moment as a function of imposed', curvature. The tensile modulus of the monofilaments is also measured and the compressive modulus calculated from the bending and tensile moduli. The displacement of the neutral axis of bending from the axis of symmetry is taken into consideration in the calculation of the compressive modulus. The results in dicate that the bending moduli and, therefore, the compressive moduli of Teflon, Saran, polyethylene, and polyester monofilaments are essentially the same as the tensile moduli. However, the compressive modulus of nylon appears to be somewhat less than the tensile modulus. ,Keywords
