Abstract
This study examines the present satisfaction of Catholic priests in their roles as priests. The degree of present satisfaction is conceptualized as a function of role expectations, attitudes, their changes from before ordination to the present, and age variables. Analysis of the data supported the research hypotheses specifying a negative relationship between present satisfaction and: (1) expectations, before ordination, of a traditional role; (2) acceptance, before ordination, of traditional Catholic beliefs and practices; (3) the amount of difference between role expectations before ordination and at present; and (4) the amount of difference between attitudes toward Catholic beliefs and practices before ordination and at present. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that (1) the amount of difference between attitudes toward Catholic beliefs and practices before ordination and at present and (2) the age of seminary entrance contribute the most to explanation of variation in role satisfaction. Keywords
