Abstract
It is shown that the linked‐cluster theorem for nonperturbational treatments (previously demonstrated) follows from the principle of unitarity (conservation of probability). The reasons why unlinked clusters appear in CI calculations, but can be cancelled out of the results is also briefly discussed. Keywords
