Urinary Tract Infection Due to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Abstract
To the Editor:— To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of urinary tract infection fromActinobacillus actinomycetemcomitansto be reported. This gram-negative organism is commonly found in normal mouth flora and has been rarely implicated in animal or human infections, except in synergism with actinomycosis. Page and King1recently reviewed the experience of the Communicable Disease Center withA actinomycetemcomitansinfections and found 32 patients who all had either bacterial endocarditis or an abscess. Report of a Case:— This 55-year-old Negro man was well until hypertension and gross hematuria developed one year prior to admission to the University of Virginia Hospital. Studies at that time revealed a small, nonfunctioning left kidney. A nephrectomy was performed, and the pathological examination revealed renal tuberculosis.
