Attitudes of Physical Therapists Toward Death and Terminal Illness

Abstract
A study to determine the attitudes of 115 clinical physical therapists toward death and terminal illness was carried out by means of a three-part questionnaire. Results from two parts of the questionnaire were compared to similar studies involving nurses and a general population drawn from readers of Psychology Today. Relatively few differences existed among the three groups. Responses to the third part of the questionnaire indicated that although the majority of physical therapists had received little or no information in their formal training concerning problems of the dying patient they were willing to work with terminally ill patients and provide needed psychological support.
