Antler Shedding among White-Tailed Deer in Connecticut

Abstract
Examination of the records of 454 yearling and adult male white-tailed deer (Odocoileus Virginianus) killed during all months, 1955-60, showed that the general period of antler shedding extends from about mid-Dec. through Jan. 184 bucks killed within this period provided a sample for analyzing antler-shedding patterns. Some differences in time of shedding were observed between dif-ferent years, though little variation was found among the state''s 8 counties. As a group, yearlings appeared to shed their antlers later than older deer, but these differences were not significant (P> 0.05).
