Abstract
The static theory of Chew and Low is used to calculate the form factors for the charge and current of the proton. The cross section obtained with these form factors is found to be in close agreement with the electron-proton scattering data of McAllister and Hofstadter up to 236 Mev. Root-mean-square radii of 6.5× cm for the charge and 9.7× cm for the current are found. The role of an extended core charge is discussed. The value of the coupling constant used is .
