Abstract
In a group of 11,647 patients afflicted with a functional psychosis, only 10 cases of bronchial asthma were found. This incidence of 0.08% contrasts markedly to the 1.5 to 2% found in the general population. The cases were found in 3 groups of the functional psychoses; viz., dementia praecox, showing an incidence of 0.06%, manic depressive with an incidence of 0.5% which was highest, and the paranoia and paranoid-condition group showing an incidence of 0.15%. All the asthmatic psychotics had a positive family history of asthma. In a survey of 5 large institutions in Illinois treating mental defectives and epileptics, not one case of bronchial asthma was found. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
