THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROSE COMB AND REPRODUCTION IN THE DOMESTIC FOWL

Abstract
Investigation of the subnormal reproductive ability of the White Wyandotte, using data from a synthetic strain containing Wyandotte breeding and from a further interpretation of the literature, indicated that it was associated with the presence of the gene for rose comb. The fault appeared to lie in fertility rather than in viability or hatchability of the embryos. The condition was expressed only in males homozygous for the rose comb gene, heterozygotes being normal or nearly normal. Females did not appear to contribute appreciably to the condition.
