Abstract
The view that clotting is basically a succession of zymogen activations remains valid but is in need of some modifications, in part because the intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathways are more closely interrelated than had been thought. The new knowledge is beginning to influence treatment of the hereditary bleeding disorders--and to point the way toward genetic cures. Keywords
