Dynamics of Island Growth in a Simple Model of the Chemisorption System O on W(110)

Abstract
The dynamics of island growth have been studied with Monte Carlo techniques for a simple lattice-gas model of O on W(110) when the system is suddenly quenched at a constant coverage ρ=0.25 to a temperature well below its transition temperature. The structure functions for the local coverage and p(2×1) order parameter exhibit a simple scaling with respect to certain characteristic time-dependent lengths. This scaling is qualitatively similar to that found in other systems such as binary alloys.
