Abstract
Interviews with primary school heads investigated their perceptions of appraisal and of potential appraisers - CEO, inspector/adviser or colleagues? This article, by the Head of Education Studies at Birmingham Polytechnic, concentrates on headteachers' views of inspectors/ advisers. It then asks 'Who is the boss?' and raises questions about professional status. Keywords
