Abstract
The Hall effect has been studied in carefully purified samples of sodium, potassium and caesium obtained by distilling the metals in vacuum, into thin flat molds of Pyrex, with sealed-in electrical leads. The Hall constants determined are as follows: sodium, -0.0021, potassium -0.0042, caesium, -0.0078. The Hall effect in each case was found to be independent of the current density in the specimen, and of the magnetic field intensity. The change in resistance due to the magnetic field was too small to be observed, up to a field of 20,000 gauss. The theory of Sommerfeld and Frank is considered in connection with lithium and sodium. Keywords
