Abstract
ENDOR measurements were done on 155Gd3+ and 157Ge3+ in CaO, using the natural distribution of Gd isotopes. For H//(100) the following parameters were measured. Some ENDOR complications related to the presence of more than one isotope are discussed. The main objective of the experiments is to investigate the isotropic electric quadrupole interaction term. Comparison with earlier experiments show that B is not very sensitive to the host crystals. This result permits the test of a recent theoretical value of B obtained for free Gd3+ with aid of relativistic linked cluster many-body perturbation theory. Satisfactory agreement between theory and experiment is found. Keywords
