Abstract
Meiosis was studied in an autotriploid Pennisetum typhoides, found in the X2 progeny of gamma ray irradiated seed. Frequent formation of seven trivalents and less frequently six and five trivalents was observed. The mean number of trivalents per cell at diakinesis was 6.35 and at metaphase I, 6.18. The chiasma frequency per nucleus was 18.1 and 15.9 at diakinesis and metaphase I respectively. The chiasma frequency in the triploid was one and half times that of the diploids. The B-chromosomes have no effect on chiasma frequency. Keywords
