Abstract
Impetigo was present in 32% of 765 residents of the island of Manono, yaws in 31%, and scabies in 22%. Other skin infections occurred in a few cases. Most of the lesions of primary yaws were found on the limbs. Impetigo seemed to be a consistent anticedent condition in most cases of yaws - the flies carrying Treponema pertenue fed indiscriminately on impetiginous and on yaws lesions. Even the youngest children were found to be infected. The commonest bone lesion associated with yaws seems to be sabre tibia. Keywords
