Abstract
The anatomical and cytological study of young and adult thalli of Dictyota dichotoma enables us: (1) to verify observations about the formation of cortical and medullary strata from the two pericentral cells and the medullary one issued from the two parallel divisions of the young axial cells; (2) to suggest an interpretation of the atypical structure observed at the base of the young thalli; (3) to reveal the cytological particularities of the different cellular types (apical, subapical, cortical, medullary cells); (4) to characterize the highly active initial cells by the remarkable size of their nucleus, the reduction of their vacuolar system, the abundance of plastids, mitochondria, dictyosomes and physodes; (5) to compare the very different evolution of the cortical cells (constantly assimilative and active) and of the medullary cells (gradually voluminous and quiescent); (6) to recognize the importance, so far unsuspected, of transversal and longitudinal divisions of young medullary cells; ... This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
