Abstract
A patient with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria is described who had low serum Fe levels and hypochromic red blood cells, probably due to the steady loss of Fe in the urine over many years. His urinary Fe loss measured over a 3 month period, at times exceeded 20 mg/ day. The average loss was 4 mg/day. The ways in which iron is lost in the urine in this disease are discussed. Keywords
