Abstract
Single applications of dusts containing 2 and 10% of DDT in pyrophyllite and a spray containing 2 lb. of water-dispersible DDT per 100 gal. of water were applied to nearly mature rye heavily infested by the armyworm, Cirphis unipuncta, at rates of 0.9 to 30 lb. of DDT per acre. Very poor control was obtained, the best being with the 10% dust at 45 lb. per acre with 53% mortality of worms. Single applications were made of wet bran baits containing 4 lb. of Paris green, 4-6 lb. of Ca arsenate, 4 lb. of Na fluosilicate, or 6 lb. of cryolite, per 100 lb. of flaky bran, at the rate of 25 lb., dry basis, per acre. These caused 94, 81, 93, 91 and 38% mortality of worms within 2 days. The results indicated that Paris green, Ca arsenate and Na fluosilicate are very effective poisons in armyworm bait at the rates used, that Ca arsenate is considerably slower than the other 2 in action and should be used at the 6-lb. rather than the 4-lb. rate, and that cryolite is comparatively ineffective against the armyworm when used in bait at the rate of 6 lb. per 100 lb. of bran. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
