Effects of Heterologous Antiserum Ig on Function of the Reticuloendothelial System

Abstract
The effects of heterologous antiserum Ig on clearance and organ localization of SRBC-51Cr were studied in the guinea pig. Treatment with ALS or ATS did not suppress vascular clearance of SRBC-51Cr, whereas AMS and APES treatments significantly suppressed RES function. SRBC-51Cr localization within the liver was likewise shown to be significantly reduced in animals treated with AMS or APES suggesting impairment of the Kupffer cell function; only treatment with APES resulted in significantly lower levels of radioactivity within the lung when compared with other means of treatment.
