Abstract
This prospective study was designed to analyse the discomfort experienced by infertile women during endometrial biopsy using a Sharman's curette in relation to their parity and the various techniques used to perform this procedure. A questionnaire was used to quantify the discomfort experienced by women during outpatient endometrial biopsy. The questionnaire was given to 192 women; 163 were completed and were subjected to multiple regression analysis. The discomfort of endometrial biopsy was found to have a significant correlation with the use of a vulsellum to hold the cervix, the parity of the woman and possibly also the position of the woman during the biopsy procedure. Parous women had less discomfort than nulliparous women. Avoiding the use of a vulsellum and putting women in the dorsal position during endometrial biopsy resulted in a significant reduction of the perceived discomfort. Keywords
