Abstract
Mitotic indices of the ruminal epithelium of 2 castrated male sheep were fed at 11:00 a.m. and every 4 h thereafter with schedules repeated in 4 trials. The indices ranged from 0.13 to 0.92% with both sheep showing a similar tendency in these fluctuations. The mean rate of cell division was low in the morning, high in the afternoon and evening and declined at about midnight. Another pair of male castrated sheep were fed at 7 a.m., and rumen samples were biopsied 6 times in 3 days. The mean rate of epithelial cell division in the rumen was low at 8 a.m., but high at noon, suggesting that the rate possibly was affected by the food intake of the experimental animals. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
