Abstract
Spectral effects of visible and near ir imaging for horizontal paths through the atmosphere are considered. For high glare and long range imaging situations, image resolution and quality in the near ir are significantly improved over that in the visible spectrum in clear weather, primarily as a result of less atmospheric scattering of radiation at longer wavelengths. Keywords
