Abstract
The relationship between environment and organism can never be an either-or relation. The organism is multipotential and the environment is multiform. The psychologist needs to broaden his conception of the environment by a thorough-going analysis in order to complement what he knows about man as a person. Environment is defined in terms of resources (content, such as materials and institutions), incentives (devices which encourage and stimulate people) and constraints (prohibitions, restrictions and interferences). The psychologist must determine the most favorable conditions of each of these for optimum individual development.
